Our tutors and presenters are available for private classes and these or extended experiences.

When you participate in and support The Pike Stories, you support development of curriculum for field trips to the Pike for school aged youth, so that we can revive the memory of the historic Pike.

The Pike Stories – A Multi-Maker ClassThe Double Ferris Wheel

INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORIC PIKE

Your guide will share a little about the historic Pike, and take students through a Ferris Wheel design activity on paper. We will discuss where we have found our information, and challenge participants to help us in our search for new information. The guide will share the progress of the Double Ferris Wheel made by students past, the Minecraft Amusement Zone, the LEGO(r) GBC model of the Historic Pike. You will then take a 1 mile walking tour around the historic Pike and look for and at signs of amusements past. Please wear your walking shoes.

THE FERRIS WHEEL GBC MODULE AND THE DOUBLE FERRIS WHEEL CHALLENGE

Learn a little about the history of the Ferris Wheel, and the Double Ferris Wheel. LEGO(r) building activities with ferris wheels. Depending upon the age and capabilities of the students, building activities will include the double Ferris Wheel and Great Ball Contraptions.
We ask the question. “”Can you make a double ferris wheel GBC Module?” Inspiration project for kids to create their own ferris wheel design using LEGO Power Functions. May include robotics on demand. Price includes $5 parts credit from the “Buy by the Part boxes”

CHOCOLATE MAKING AND CHOCOLATE MOLD MAKING

We will use Trish’s mold to make a chocolate wheel. We will work to improve the wheel and vacuum-form it again. Participants will visualize how they might use their wheel in a moving sculpture.

PHOTOGRAPHING AND EDITING IMAGES FOR SPOONFLOWER

We will build and photograph a simple wheel and other models we might envision. Then we will look at how that image is prepared for upload and sale on Spoonflower. We will discuss Intellectual Property, using your own images and creations.

All images will be uploaded to our Spoonflower site and made available for purchase by you and the public. You may order fabric with your images from the site. The group may occasionally coordinate purchases from the site.

HAND AND MACHINE SEWING

Learn basic hand sewing OR use of a sewing machine
You will use a small 4″ x 4″ Spoonflower printed image to make one of the following:
a/ A simple pull sack
b/ A cellphone case
c/ A Mask
*LEGO models printed fabric is available for options 1 and 2. Option 3 may use LEGO Fabric if this class is purchased as a 2 day class.

Hand or machine sewing supplies (sewing needle, threads, fabric scissors, sewing machine
